Three Texas A&M players have been put on scholarship.

Aggies coach Kevin Sumlin announced in front of the team Saturday that redshirt junior tight end Tanner Schorp (San Antonio, Texas), redshirt junior Shane Tripucka (Allen, Texas) and redshirt sophomore linebacker Cullen Gillaspia (Katy, Texas), all walk-ons, had earned scholarships.

“We’ve been real lucky here that we’ve got guys who work very, very hard,” Sumlin said. “Some guys have come here without scholarships and guys have played, guys have done a lot of different things here and have proven their value, their worth and who they are as a football player. Guys who are going to help us win championships.”

After Sumlin named each of the three recipients, their Aggies teammates erupted in applause and engaged in some playful shoving.

Each of the three players, all of whom are Texas natives, are expected to see action this season. On Texas A&M’s recently released depth chart, Schorp was listed as a co-starter at tight end (along with Kalvin Cline), Tripucka was the starting punter and Gillaspia was the backup weakside linebacker (behind senior Shaan Washington).

Schorp, Tripucka and Gillaspia all redshirted during their true freshman seasons.

Following the announcement, the three players reacted to the news on Twitter.
