With fewer than two weeks until the September 10 “Battle at Bristol” between Tennessee and Virginia Tech, bosses and bugs are checking out the new field.

The event’s official Twitter feed, @BattleAtBristol, released more images from Bristol Motor Speedway on Monday after the weekend’s work. Now, it’s increasingly clear: Bristol is nearly ready for some football.

Here's a time-lapse video of the week's work.

The artificial turf surface was laid last week. Now, workers have begun painting the all-important yard lines at 5-yard intervals, as Virginia Tech has noticed.

Johnson City, Tenn., TV station WJHL captured another photo, showing just how the #BattleAtBristol will look under those Saturday night lights.

Bristol Motor Speedway general manager Jerry Caldwell toured the field Monday morning, and it looks as if he liked what he saw.

Speedway Motorsports president Marcus Smith got a ground-level shot of the new field.

Even insects - really, really big insects - took the time to sample the view of the new speedway.

The verdict: Two antennae up.
