Former LSU defensive end Barkevious Mingo is on the move to the New England Patriots.

The Cleveland Browns traded Mingo to the Patriots Thursday afternoon, a story first reported by ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter. They received a 2017 fifth-round draft pick in return.

Mingo was the sixth overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft by the Browns, but failed to make a significant impact during his three seasons in Cleveland. He was entering the final season of his rookie contract this fall after the Browns declined to pick up his fifth-year option in May.

Converted to outside linebacker in the NFL, Mingo started three games in his rookie season and 11 more in 2014, but his playing time plunged last year. He started only twice and finished the season with 24 tackles and one interception in 16 games.

For his Browns career, Mingo had 68 tackles, seven sacks (five during his rookie season) and one interception.

At LSU, Mingo was a two-time second-team All-SEC selection (2011 and 2012). He had 119 tackles, 15 sacks and 27 quarterback hurries during his three-year career with the Tigers.

New England will hope Mingo can follow in the path of former Browns defensive end Jabaal Sheard, who had eight sacks in his first season with the Patriots last fall.

On Wednesday, New England traded center Bryan Stork to the Washington Redskins, which likely means former Georgia center David Andrews will start at the position for the Patriots this season.
