Vanderbilt Athletics has launched a donation drive to bring relief to victims of Louisiana’s recent flooding.

The school has launched a donation drive to last all day Friday, from 7 a.m.-5 p.m., gathering supplies for those affected by the flood. Donors are encouraged to bring items to the southwest corner of Vanderbilt Stadium (Gate 2) or the McGugin Center, which houses the athletic administrative offices and weight rooms.

The drive aims to collect bottled water, clothing, school supplies, sheets, blankets and towels. The goods collected will be shipped to Baton Rouge, where LSU is located, to be distributed by the mayor's office.

The Vanderbilt program also is conducting a special donation drive Thursday night during the Commodores' home women's soccer game against Florida State.

Vanderbilt conducted a similar initiative last October to bring relief to flood victims in Columbia, South Carolina, where the University of South Carolina campus is located.

At least three other SEC athletic programs also have collected donations to bring to Baton Rouge. Both South Carolina and Alabama already have delivered goods to the city, while Mississippi State is still gathering goods.

The American Red Cross already has said that Louisiana flooding is "likely the worst natural disaster" in the United States since Hurricane Sandy in 2012. The flooding has claimed at least 13 lives and has displaced tens of thousands of Louisiana residents.
